WALK Lucca Private Tour

Lucca: A Timeless Treasure
As we passed through the high walls, astonishment immediately took over… we had entered the ancient Roman city of Lucca!
We didn’t count the churches, but legend has it there are more than 100 scattered throughout the city. On clear days, from the top of the Guinigi Tower, you can admire a breathtaking view of the Apuan Alps.
In medieval times, noble families measured their power by height—the taller the tower, the more influential the family. As we wandered from piazza to piazza, we absorbed the city’s rich history through its stunning architecture and unique atmosphere.
Along the way, we stopped for some shopping in small local shops, before reaching Lucca’s famous walls—completely walkable. Over time, they have transformed into a park, wrapping around the city and creating a peaceful barrier that shields it from modern life.

Hi, here are some landmarks we cover during the tour: we move from the trace of the Roman amphitheater that can be seen in the shape of the Piazza dell’Anfiteatro to the archeological remains under the 12th century church of Saints Giovanni and Reparata (the first city cathedral), to the various towers and villas from the 12th to 16th centuries; Piazza of San Michele with its Church of San Michele in Foro, the Basilica of San Frediano as well as the Clock Tower and Guinigi Tower, to name just a few.
