How it all started
We don’t know much about the origins of the Free Walking Tour. Rumors say it first appeared somewhere in Germany in the 2000s. Piece together a city’s square, a boy with a sign saying “Free Walking Tour” and a bunch of young tourists looking for something different: there you have a story. Today, the Free Walking Tour concept is spread around 75 countries and more than 206 cities, including Italy (problably, while you are reading this, a new Free Walking Tour is borning somewhere in the world).
What we know pretty well is our story. It all began during the summer of 2014: Alessandro and Emmanuele were traveling Central Vietnam, on dusty roads, riding two old motorbike from North to South. We were all about to get our Master Degrees. That was supposed to be the last dance. Or they thought so. It came as a flash, an intuition, or perhaps a folly. Back in Italy, I received a call from them. <<We need to talk! We got an idea>>. The journey was yet to come…
