The Former Reggiane Factory
The factory that was a city, or the city that was a factory?!
Crossing the overpass behind the station, you enter the worker district of Santa Croce esterna, whose origin is strongly linked to the foundation of the Reggiane Facotry complex. The industrial heritage does not only help understanding the history of the district (and the city) but shapes it. It is a story of struggles and work that guided Reggio Emilia into the 20th century and industrialization. The tour will focus on the Reggiane complex, currently undergoing redevelopment.
The Former San Lazzaro Asylum

We invite you to the incredible guided tour of the Former San Lazzaro Asylum. Led by our excellent tour guide Stefania, you will cross the doors of the complex to discover one of the most important psychiatric institutions in Italy, from its foundation under the Dukes of Este to its closure and conversion following the Basaglia Law. A journey through history and the stories of those who were interned; a vivid account, enhanced by excerpts from bibliographic notes and readings from the archives.
The itinerary will cover the entire area of the current complex, including both old and new pavilions. The visit will conclude with entry to the Museum of Psychiatric History.

DOMENICA ALTERNATIVA – In una caldissima domenica di giugno abbiamo visitato, al mattino, le ex Officine Reggiane e, al pomeriggio, l’ ex manicomio di San Lazzaro. È stata una visita molto interessante e la guida Stefania era preparata, professionale ed esaustiva. Visita consigliatissima… magari con un po’ più di fresco!
Sarebbe bellissimo poter entrare nei padiglioni – Il tour è stato interessante dal punto di vista dell’illustrazione e spiegazione. Ci aspettavamo però di vedere qualcosa in più e non solamente da fuori, pensavamo di poter entrare e vedere anche l’interno.
