Siena is located in the heart of Tuscany, surrounded by the typical rolling hills that have made this region famous worldwide. It is one of the most well-preserved medieval towns in Italy and, among them, one of the most beautiful.
The city’s iconic landmark is Piazza del Campo, where the famous Palio di Siena takes place once a year. The square is dominated by the Palazzo Pubblico and its tower, the Torre del Mangia. Both were built, along with the Cathedral of Siena, during the period of the Government of the Nine, the city’s golden age.

We had a great time on our walking tour. We had never been to Siena, but I knew a little about the history and wanted a brief overview of the city on the evening we arrived. This tour was perfect. We learned a lot about the history, the contrade and the Palio horse race, and all the main sites were pointed out (we scheduled ours later in the evening, but if you have an earlier time you will be able to enter more sites), and were given good recommendations on where to eat/drink/go for the remainder of our stay.
