Noto | Baroque Walking Tour
Tour details
With our walking tour, you will discover Noto's old town center and it's Unesco world heritage architecture. The town was destroyed by a terrible earthquake in the year 1693 together with the other towns in southeastern Sicily. It was completely rebuilt in baroque style and with the beautiful golden limestone which is typical of this part of Sicily. The itineary of this walking tour takes you through the 'Corso', the main street of Noto. Starting from the neoclassical porta reale the walk will let you discover the incredible sequence of religious buildings: San Francesco all'Immacolata, the SS. Salvatore cloister and church, Santa Chiara and the cathedral. You will visit also the interiors of the most beautiful churches like the cathedral: its collapse and the rebuilding of this iconic church. The tour continues on via Nicolaci, famous for the yearly Infiorata flower festival but also for the 'most beautiful baroque balconies in Sicily' with incredible masks. Back on the Corso, we will pass by San Carlo church and end at Hercules' fountain with a beautiful view of the convex San Domenico and the neoclassical theatre. The tour lasts about 1h30m
