Free Walking Tour Polignano
Tour details
Nestled along the Adriatic coast, Polignano a Mare is a true gem of Southern Italy, famous for its breathtaking cliffs, historic charm, and vibrant atmosphere. Originally founded by the ancient Greeks as "Polis Nea" in the 4th century BC, today it is best known as the home of high diving competitions, where athletes leap from platforms over 20 meters high into the sea.
The tour begins at the panoramic terraces overlooking the sea. From here, you can admire the vast horizon and catch a glimpse of the renowned Grotta Palazzese.
Walking through the charming streets, we will visit the Romanesque cathedral. Our route passes by the Civic Tower, which features a fascinating 19th-century clock still operated manually with counterweights. Above it stands the statue of Saint Vito, the town’s patron saint, who was also venerated by Domenico Modugno, the world-famous Italian singer born right here in Polignano.
To complete the experience, you can choose to relax at a local café (at your own expense) and indulge in Polignano’s famous gelato—rich, creamy, and traditionally dipped in whipped cream—or taste the unique "Caffè Speciale", a delightful blend of coffee, cream, amaretto, and lemon zest.
