Ferrara Old Town Walking Tour
Tour details
It was the 1385, I was working as apprentice in a little shop in the Loggia dei Merciai. I was very poor at the time. I spent my working days dreaming of the beauties of the Cathedral and the elegance of the Ducal Palace. They had it all. Nothing left for the people, just hunger and starvation. Was it then, a day as the others, a crowd gathered in front of the palace, yelling at the Duke. Houndreds of people. I joined. I felt like my dreams were becoming reality...
Take a walk on the suggestive medieval city centre of Ferrara. We will start our tour from the famous San Michele Castle, the very core of the old town and its symbol, built after the revolt our young apprentice joined centuries ago. We will then proceed to the San Giorgio Cathedral and the Municipality Palace - that preservs the elegance of the Ducal Palace. We are now entering the oldest part of the town, known as via delle Volte, inside the used-to-be Ferrara Jewish Ghetto.
